India Women Exit T20 World Cup After Australia Defeat

India Women saw their T20 World Cup journey come to a painful end after a six-wicket loss against Australia Women in a must-win match. The result confirmed India’s exit from the tournament and once again left fans disappointed after another ICC event where the team came close but could not cross the final hurdle.

The pressure was huge before the match even started. India needed a victory to stay alive in the race for the semi-finals. Australia, known for handling big moments better than any other team, once again showed why they remain one of the strongest sides in women’s cricket. They chased down India’s total of 170 with confidence and reached 172/4 in just 19 overs.

India Put Up a Strong Total After Good Batting Show

India batted first and finished at 170/4 in their 20 overs. It looked like a competitive total, and at one stage, it even felt enough to challenge Australia on a big occasion.

The opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a steady start. Smriti played carefully and made 38 runs from 37 balls. Her innings included six boundaries. Shafali looked more aggressive from the start and scored 34 runs from 26 balls. She hit three fours and two sixes before Sophie Molineux ended her innings.

India lost the first wicket at 66 in 9.1 overs when Shafali departed. Smriti followed soon after at 83/2 in the 11.3 over after a run-out caused by sharp work from Lucy Hamilton and Georgia Wareham.

At that point, India needed someone to take control of the innings, and Jemimah Rodrigues helped rebuild the innings. She played a patient knock of 34 runs from 28 balls. Her innings had one boundary and one six. She later retired out in the 19th over as India searched for quick runs in the final stage.

Harmanpreet Kaur Played Like a Captain

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur stepped up when her team needed her the most. She played the best innings of the match for India and attacked almost every Australian bowler.

Harmanpreet smashed 56 runs from only 27 balls at a strike rate of 207.41. Her innings included six fours and three sixes. She looked in complete control and gave India real hope in a pressure match.

Her partnership with Jemimah changed the pace of the innings. The pair added 64 runs together and pushed Australia onto the back foot for some time.

In the final overs, Richa Ghosh stayed unbeaten on 1 from one ball, while Deepti Sharma finished strongly with 4 not out from a single delivery. India closed their innings at 170/4 with a run rate of 8.5 per over.

Australia captain Sophie Molineux was the most successful bowler. She took 2 wickets for 46 runs in four overs. Lucy Hamilton had an economical spell of 17 runs in three overs, while Georgia Wareham gave away only 16 runs in her three-over spell.

Australia Lose Early Wicket But Recover Fast

Australia needed 171 runs to win, and India made the perfect start when Renuka Singh struck in the very first over.

Georgia Voll went back after scoring only 4 runs from two balls. Renuka trapped her lbw and gave India an early breakthrough. It looked like India had started exactly how they needed.

Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield then rebuilt the innings carefully. Mooney scored 22 runs from 20 balls with two boundaries before Deepti Sharma removed her. Phoebe added 24 runs from 25 deliveries and hit two fours along with one six before Shree Charani dismissed her.

Australia reached 68/3 in 9.1 overs after Mooney’s wicket. At that moment, India had a small opening in the game and fans believed a comeback was possible.

Ellyse Perry and Gardner Changed the Match

The match completely shifted after Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner came together at the crease. The experienced pair stayed calm and slowly pushed India out of the contest.

Perry played a superb knock of 56 runs from 38 balls. She struck eight boundaries and kept the scoreboard moving. On the other side, Ashleigh Gardner played with even more freedom.

Gardner remained unbeaten on 53 runs from only 29 balls. She smashed three fours and three sixes and attacked almost every loose ball that came her way.

Together they built a 100-run partnership that ended India’s hopes. By the time Perry lost her wicket in the 18.4 over, Australia had already almost secured the result.

Georgia Wareham came in at the end and stayed unbeaten on 4 runs from two balls. Australia reached 172/4 in 19 overs with one over left in the chase.

Indian Bowlers Could Not Stop Australia Late

India’s bowlers started well but struggled badly in the second half of the chase.

Renuka Singh finished with 1 wicket for 41 runs in four overs. Deepti Sharma picked up one wicket and gave away 31 runs from her four-over spell. Shree Charani impressed with two wickets for 32 runs in four overs and gave India some hope in the middle overs.

However, Kranti Gaud had a difficult outing and conceded 12 runs in her only over. Radha Yadav also struggled and leaked 24 runs in just two overs.

Shafali Verma surprisingly bowled four overs and finished wicketless, though she kept things under control with figures of 0 for 29.

Australia’s run rate kept rising in the final overs, and India simply had no answer when Gardner and Perry attacked.

Another ICC Heartbreak for India Women

This defeat officially ended India Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. The loss was painful because the team actually fought hard and posted a strong total under pressure.

But once again, important moments slipped away. Earlier losses in the tournament had already damaged India’s net run rate badly, and that meant this Australia match became a knockout game.

Even after Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliant captain’s knock and solid batting contributions from Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues, India could not defend the target.

Australia once again proved why they remain the benchmark in women’s cricket. They handled pressure better, chased with confidence, and secured a place ahead while India packed their bags.

For Indian fans, it was another difficult ICC exit. The talent is clearly there, but the wait for a major world title continues.
