India Reach Women’s Asia Cup Final After Bangladesh Win

India have reached the final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 after a strong 40-run win over Bangladesh in Dubai. The first semi-final saw India post 149/6 in 20 overs, before they held Bangladesh to 109/7 from their 20 overs.

The result keeps India unbeaten in the tournament and gives them another chance to lift the Asia Cup title. The team showed good balance in both parts of the match. Shafali Verma gave India a strong start with the bat, while Deepti Sharma led the bowling effort with three wickets.

The win also sends India into another Women’s Asia Cup final. They will now wait for the result of the second semi-final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The winner of that match will face India in the final on September 13 in Dubai.

Shafali Verma Leads the Way

The biggest star of the match was Shafali Verma. The India opener scored 64 runs from 40 balls and earned the Player of the Match award. Her innings had seven fours and three sixes, with a strike rate of 160.

Her knock was important because the pitch was not easy for batting. The surface was slow, and several Indian batters found it hard to score quickly. Shafali, however, played with confidence and attacked the Bangladesh bowlers when she saw a chance.

There was also an element of luck in her innings. Bangladesh dropped Shafali three times. Each missed chance gave the Indian opener another chance to build her score. She made full use of those mistakes and pushed India towards a useful total.

Shafali also reached her 20th T20I half-century during the knock. Her ability to score quickly helped India keep the pressure on Bangladesh even when runs were not easy to find.

India Lose Smriti Mandhana Early

India did not get the start they wanted from Smriti Mandhana. The experienced opener fell for just 2 runs from five balls. Her early exit put more responsibility on Shafali and the rest of the batting order.

Instead of allowing that setback to affect the team, Shafali took control. She formed a useful second-wicket stand with Pratika Rawal, who made 20 runs from 24 balls. Their partnership helped India recover after Mandhana’s early dismissal.

The Bangladesh bowlers kept the pressure on for much of the innings. India did not find it easy to score boundaries on a difficult pitch. Still, Shafali’s attacking approach gave the team the boost it needed.

Harmanpreet and Richa Add Important Runs

After Shafali’s dismissal, India still had work to do. The team needed some late runs to make sure Bangladesh faced a difficult chase.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur stayed until the end and scored 24 not out from 28 balls. Her innings was not fast, but it helped India keep the scoreboard moving during the final overs.

Richa Ghosh also made a useful contribution with 21 runs from 16 balls. Her attacking shots gave India some much-needed momentum near the end of the innings.

Deepti Sharma then added a quick 13 from five balls. Those late runs helped India finish at 149/6 after 20 overs, a total that looked competitive on the slow Dubai pitch.

India may not have produced a huge score, but the conditions meant that 149 was a challenging target.

Bangladesh Start the Chase With Hope

Bangladesh needed 150 runs to reach the final. Their chase began with some positive shots, as Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter tried to give their side a good platform.

For a short time, Bangladesh looked ready to make the chase difficult for India. The early batters found a few boundaries and kept the score moving.

India, however, soon brought their spinners into the attack. The change made a clear difference. The slow pitch suited the Indian bowlers, who used pace and control to limit the Bangladesh batters.

Once the wickets began to fall, Bangladesh found it hard to recover.

Deepti Sharma Leads India’s Bowling

Deepti Sharma was the main force with the ball. She took 3 wickets for 26 runs from four overs and played a major role in breaking the Bangladesh chase.

Nandani Sharma also had a strong spell. She took 2 wickets for 10 runs from two overs, which made it even harder for Bangladesh to score freely.

Sree Charani and Prema Rawat took one wicket each. The Indian bowling unit stayed calm and did not allow Bangladesh to build a long partnership.

The pressure grew as the chase moved towards the middle overs. Bangladesh needed runs at a faster rate, but India’s bowlers kept control of the game.

Bangladesh Finish on 109/7

Bangladesh ended their 20 overs at 109/7. Shorna Akter was their top scorer with 22 runs from 18 balls, while Dilara Akter made 21 from 26 balls.

The team needed a much faster scoring rate to challenge India’s total. Once the Indian spinners took control, that task became harder.

In the end, Bangladesh fell 40 runs short. India had enough runs on the board and then used disciplined bowling to protect the total.

The result showed that India can win even when their batting does not produce a massive score. Their bowling attack provided the support needed at the right time.

India Stay Unbeaten

The victory also keeps India’s perfect run alive in the tournament. They have now won all four of their matches and have used the same XI throughout the competition.

That consistency has been one of India’s main strengths. Different players have stepped up at different times. Against Bangladesh, Shafali led the batting while Deepti made the key contribution with the ball.

The team has also shown that it can handle pressure. A semi-final can often bring extra tension, but India stayed calm after losing Mandhana early and after Bangladesh made a positive start to the chase.

Final Opponent Still Unknown

India now have to wait for the second semi-final. Pakistan and Sri Lanka will meet to decide who earns the other place in the final.

India will face the winner on Sunday, September 13, in Dubai. The final will give Harmanpreet Kaur’s team a chance to finish the tournament with the Asia Cup trophy.

For now, India can take confidence from this semi-final. They handled a difficult pitch, recovered from an early wicket, made 149 runs, and then kept Bangladesh to 109.

A Strong Team Effort

The win was not only about Shafali’s 64 or Deepti’s three wickets. India needed contributions from several players to secure the result.

Shafali gave the side attacking intent at the top. Harmanpreet and Richa added useful runs late in the innings. Deepti then led a disciplined bowling attack that kept Bangladesh under pressure.

India also benefited from Bangladesh’s missed chances. Four dropped catches in total hurt Bangladesh and allowed India to score more than they may have managed with cleaner fielding.

Still, India made Bangladesh pay for those errors.

India Now Eye the Trophy

India have done the first major job: they have reached the final. The next challenge will be much bigger. A final brings a different kind of pressure, and India will need another complete performance if they want to end the tournament as champions.

Shafali’s form will be a major positive. Her 64 from 40 balls showed that she can change the course of a match even on a difficult surface. Deepti’s control with the ball gives India another strong option.

The team will now watch Pakistan and Sri Lanka closely before the final. Whoever comes through that contest will face an unbeaten India side with plenty of confidence.

For now, the message from Dubai is simple. India have earned their place in the Women’s Asia Cup final, and they did it with a 40-run victory over Bangladesh, led by Shafali Verma’s brilliant 64 and Deepti Sharma’s three-wicket spell.
