New Zealand Beat India by 7 Wickets in Final T20I!

New Zealand ended the five-match T20I series against India with a strong seven-wicket win in the final match. The match took place at Seddon Park in Hamilton on November 1, 2026. New Zealand chased a target of 192 runs and reached 195 for 3 in just 18 overs.

Although New Zealand won the final match, India had the last laugh in the series. The visitors won the first three matches and took an unassailable 3-0 lead. New Zealand then won the fourth and fifth matches, but India still claimed the series by a 3-2 margin.

Tim Seifert was the star of New Zealand’s run chase. He scored 93 runs from just 50 balls. Glenn Phillips also played a major role with an unbeaten 65 from 38 balls. Their strong partnership helped the home side reach the target with 12 balls to spare.

India Post 191 Runs After a Poor Start

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to field first. His decision proved useful as the New Zealand bowlers put India under pressure from the first few overs.

India had a poor start. Abhishek Sharma lost his wicket for just 1 run from 2 balls. Sanju Samson also failed to make a mark, as he scored only 4 runs from 10 balls. Adam Milne took both early wickets and left India at 19 for 2 after 3.1 overs.

India needed a strong partnership to recover from this early setback. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer took charge and gave the team the support it needed. Both players attacked the New Zealand bowlers and helped India return to the match.

Kishan was the first to reach his half-century. He scored 61 runs from 32 balls, with five fours and five sixes. His quick knock gave India a much-needed boost after the early loss of two wickets.

At the other end, Shreyas Iyer also showed his class. The Indian captain scored 50 runs from just 23 balls. His knock had three fours and four sixes. He reached his half-century in only 22 balls and put the New Zealand bowlers under pressure.

The pair added 93 runs and helped India move past the early trouble. However, both players lost their wickets soon after their half-centuries. Kishan fell for 61, while Iyer departed for 50.

Naman Dhir Adds Useful Runs

After the key partnership ended, India needed more runs from the middle and lower order. Naman Dhir stepped up and scored 33 runs from 23 balls. His knock had four fours and one six.

Nitish Kumar Reddy also made a useful contribution with 22 runs from 17 balls. These efforts helped India reach a total of 191 for 8 in their 20 overs.

However, India lost wickets at regular stages towards the end. The team could not make full use of the final overs and fell short of a total close to 200.

Adam Milne was the best bowler for New Zealand. He took four wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs. His early strikes hurt India, while his strong spell also kept the run rate under control.

Nathan Smith and Blair Tickner took two wickets each. Their efforts helped New Zealand stop India at 191 runs.

New Zealand Get Off to a Quick Start

New Zealand had a target of 192 runs for victory. The home side lost Finn Allen early, as he scored just 9 runs. Arshdeep Singh took the first wicket for India.

However, the early loss did not slow down New Zealand. Tim Seifert took charge and attacked the Indian bowlers with confidence. He made good use of his chances and kept the score ahead of the required rate.

Seifert reached his half-century in just 34 balls. His shots across the ground made life hard for the Indian bowlers. He also made good use of a dropped catch early in his knock.

Daryl Mitchell gave Seifert good support at the other end. He scored 29 runs from 16 balls, with four sixes. The pair helped New Zealand build a strong base for the chase.

Mitchell lost his wicket for 29, but New Zealand were in a good position by then. The team had already crossed 80 runs and had plenty of overs left to reach the target.

Tim Seifert Misses His Century by Just Seven Runs

Seifert continued his attack and came close to his first T20I century. He scored 93 runs from 50 balls before Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled him out.

His knock had 11 fours and five sixes. It was a fine display of power and control. He made sure that New Zealand stayed ahead throughout most of the chase.

Seifert’s 93 was one of the key reasons behind New Zealand’s win. He kept the pressure on India and made the target look much easier than it was at the start.

Glenn Phillips Takes New Zealand Home

Glenn Phillips played another fine knock for New Zealand. He scored an unbeaten 65 from 38 balls. His innings had eight fours and three sixes.

Phillips had already shown good form in the earlier matches of the series. His half-century in the final match gave New Zealand the final push they needed.

He also set a new record for the most runs in a five-match bilateral T20I series. Phillips finished with 341 runs, going past the previous record of 331 runs held by Phil Salt.

Phillips hit the winning boundary through third man in the 18th over. New Zealand reached 195 for 3 and won the match by seven wickets, with two overs left.

Adam Milne received the Player of the Match award for his four-wicket spell.

India Win the Series 3-2

Despite the defeat in the final match, India had plenty of reasons to feel happy. The team won the five-match series by 3-2 after a strong start.

India won the first T20I by four wickets on October 22. The team then won the second match by four wickets on October 24. In the third match on October 27, India secured a six-wicket win.

New Zealand made a strong return in the fourth match on October 30. The home side won that match by 87 runs. They then carried that form into the final T20I and secured another win.

However, India’s three early victories had already put the series beyond New Zealand’s reach. The final result was 3-2 in favour of India.

India and New Zealand Turn Their Focus to ODIs

The T20I series has now come to an end, and both teams will soon face each other in the 50-over format. The five-match ODI series will start on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland.

India will hope to carry their success from the T20I series into the ODI matches. New Zealand, on the other hand, will take confidence from their two late wins.

The final T20I was a good result for the home side, but India remain the series winners. Seifert and Phillips gave New Zealand a memorable win, while Kishan and Iyer were the top performers for India with the bat.

India may have lost the final match, but their three wins at the start of the tour made sure that the T20I series ended in their favour.
